The week is over, but it might still remain within the body… and the mind.
I was in a public washroom musing on whether or not I had been to forward with a new boss when I noticed a little note stuck at the bottom of the stall door. On it two words, Love Yourself, with a couple of letters almost faded that someone had taken the time to trace over. Maybe that person had been touched by the sentiment and wanted to make sure the message remained for others to see, like myself, as it were. Indeed, those words had an effect as my worries dissipated leaving me smiling, appreciating the moment.
The power of words.
Advertising has long understood and taken advantage of this, but we are so bombarded with information that we sometimes forget the power behind the words coming at us. Those two words that in other circumstances I would not have noticed changed my mindset. I was touched by the fact that a person bothered to retrace the faded letters. That person took the time to do this for herself, for me, for you. The person that wrote the message and stuck it there probably lives in my town. Maybe someday, these two people will come across my blog and see that a simple act has had an influence on someone else.
The note might have been there for a while, long forgotten by its author, but the act remains. For that person, it is in the past, for me it is the present.
After leaving the washroom… and my thought bubble, I noticed a young man playing a piano in a public square. People were walking by him without a glance, but in my new state of mind, I noticed him and enjoyed his music…
And yesterday, on the sidewalk, I saw a little sprite perched on her father’s shoulders glowing in the waning daylight; a sweet and innocent child free of prejudice and judgment for the world around her. Full of lightness and confidence, she was like a breath of fresh air and joy.
Meaningful connections are sometimes silent and imperceptible, but there nonetheless. Maybe today you inspired, or were inspired, without even knowing it. We are not alone. We are all in this together, whether we like it or not, we share the same spaceship traveling the galaxy. And it’s an amazing spaceship.
